The Department of Global Health Implementation Science Program
Getting what works where it’s needed most using implementation science.
About our Program
The Department of Global Health Implementation Science Program is part of a strategic initiative of the University of Washington School of Public Health to grow disciplinary expertise in implementation science across the School’s many departments and programs.
Our Mission
To develop, and help others apply, evidence about how to get “what works” in health into practice with greater speed, fidelity, efficiency, and relevant coverage.
Directed by Professor Bryan Weiner, PhD (Global Health & HSPoP), the Implementation Science Program provides expert consultation, develops new methods for the field, and mentors early-career scientists across the spectrum of implementation research. Guided by our mission, the Program provides expertise and resources to support research, education, and training in implementation science in the Department and across the Schools of Public Health and Medicine.
Since its creation, the Program has pursued three strategic objectives: 1) making UW the “go to” place for education and training in implementation science, both domestically and globally; (2) creating “one implementation science, not many” on campus by fostering multi-disciplinary collaboration and promoting cross-fertilization between domestic implementation science and global implementation science; and (3) enhancing UW’s brand as a leader in implementation research and practice. The Program has six core faculty and three affiliate faculty. Please visit their faculty profiles listed below to learn more about their work.
About this website
The IS Program also produces this Resource Hub website for the global implementation science community. The UW IS Resource Hub gathers together key publications and videos created by experts at UW and around the world, pairing them with high-level explanations of relevant concepts. While our primary audience is novice-to-intermediate implementation scientists, even seasoned experts can benefit from the content available here.
On this website you can find an introduction to implementation science, learn about the breadth of research using implementation science methods, find IS publications by UW authors, browse funded research projects by UW principal investigators, learn more about IS training opportunities at UW, and walk through an 8-step map of conducting research in implementation science.
